AT 31-years-old Falabella cross, Barney is still going strong and much loved by his owner, Yasmin Ticquet from Colchester.

Having owned him since he was three, Yasmin dotes on Barney who was originally bought for her children to ride.

When he was ready to break, Barney was found to be quite a forward going pony so Yasmin started to drive him, as well as enjoying spending time with him as a lead rein pony when the children wanted to ride.

Said Yasmin: “Barney is only 10hh and so can easily get overweight but we have always been really careful to monitor this and make sure he is fit and healthy.

“Over the years he has had three or four serious bouts of laminitis and has rotation of the pedal bone in one of his front hooves.

“He also has arthritis in both knees and in recent weeks was looking very sorry for himself in fact I thought I was going to lose him.

“Normally he is quite happy pottering about the yard and has a small bare paddock to walk around in.

“I can’t put him out with the bigger horses as they are too boisterous for him and I think when I lost my old mare in March that really seemed to affect him and he started to lay down more.

“As he was becoming so stiff I had regular body work sessions for him, giving him a massage to try and get him more mobile.  I could see his joy of life was still there and wanted to do anything I could to get him up and walking around more.”

Yasmin had bought Cavalor Senior Mix for another of her horses and saw a review from LaminAid and decided to give it a go.

“I am a big believer in ensuring the gut is working well and also like the holistic approach to care and wellbeing,” added Yasmin.

“When the LaminAid arrived I started syringing it into Barney’s mouth and he was very happy to take it without any problems at all.

“Over five days he became much more sociable and happy, walking around confidently and not lying down as much.

“It is wonderful to see him getting back to his old self and I am so pleased he is on the road to recovery.”
